How It Works

Reconstitution concentration is simple arithmetic: the mass of compound divided by the volume of solvent added. Adding more solvent gives a more dilute solution; adding less gives a more concentrated one. The mass is fixed by the vial — only the solvent volume changes the concentration. How do you calculate the concentration of a reconstituted peptide?

Divide the mass of peptide by the volume of solvent added: concentration (mg/ml) = compound mass (mg) ÷ solvent volume (ml). For example, 10 mg dissolved in 2 ml gives 5 mg/ml. This describes the strength of the prepared research solution only.

What solvent is used to reconstitute research peptides?

Bacteriostatic water is the standard laboratory solvent for reconstituting most lyophilised research peptides. The volume added sets the concentration of the resulting solution.
